A Super Time

Over the last year, several DLC regulars hit the big 60. On July 9 the Supers, Krissi, Kara and TJ threw a suprise party for Kay and Tom. Turns out that it was also for Marshall and Tom Brula. Lots of regulars showed up for the fun. July was good and hot, and the fishing was pretty darn good according to those who showed up with their fish tales. Rumor has it that next year there will be more of the Super-Popp clan as well!

Spring!

Warm temperatures that took out the ice early in April gave us a warm, wet May. Fishing opener was actually warm! Timmy Haus played the Dome to a good crowd of people. The drought of April ended in May. So normally when we would still be waiting for the ice to melt, I got out my boat and did the obigatory tour of the lake with some friends in tow. (Here seen with Togo the labradoodle, a "regular" at the corner) Had friends from the ice who live in Wisconsin stop in as well. Gearing up for a longer summer!

Fire danger EXPLOSIVE

The ice went out on Deer Lake April 3, a record for those who can remember. Wildlife sprang to spring much earlier than usual. It was very dry for several weeks. On April 12 I flicked an ash off a cig, and the teensy ash started a fire that I tried to smack down, but given the conditions, was impossible. I battled it until other folks driving along the road called in the Bigfork fire department. that was a good call. Despite my valiant efforts, it took them to get it out. The lake was at historic lows. Anyone could take strolls down the shorelines and discover things like hadden happpened for over 30 years. Some prayed for rain. Others said don't. Oh how the rain prayers have been answered! My 2nd degrees burns healed. And onward now onward to summer.

OMG!!! Deer Lake Charlie's is Open in April!! LOL!!

Global warming? Who cares? This was the earliest recorded ice out on Deer Lake, April 3. What could be next? The record early opening of Deer Lake Charlie's! Starting April 9, the doors are open on weekends. Rumor has it that a large local saddle club from Effie is headed this way over the weekend, they need to stop in somewhere, there are few other choices. The winter is over, summer thinking and acting is taking hold and the fishing opener is still weeks away.

After the close in October, mushers from the Togo area passed through in their training runs led by famous musher Jaime Nelson. The Halloween party at the Neighborhood was a great success with music provided by Not Quite Rite. Costumes were incredible and there is a shot here of the winners in the annual Neighborhood Costume Contest. November was really warm and there is a shot of that as well. The winter wasn't too bad and it has obviously ended. Let the good times roll! We'll keep you posted. Rumor also has it that great Minnesota musician Timmy Haus will be playing on the fishing opener weekend. Don't miss it, he is a great entertainer, come in and enjoy the fun times! That is May 15-16.
